This
instrument is used for checking the seam thickness, seam length
and countersunk depth of seamed containers. From these
dimensions the quality of the seam can be ascertained. Body and
cover hook can also be measured with the help of this
instrument.

The
principle of operation is identical to that of a normal micrometer,
but the shape and the jaws are designed for this specific
purpose. The seam is cut open in the prescribed manner and the required
measurements made.
